HRSA health center performance period extensions for fiscal year 2027

Which health centers get a performance period extension for the fiscal year 2027 Service Area Competition?
Health centers whose current period of performance ends December 31, 2026, January 31, 2027, or February 28, 2027, must compete for their service area again in a fiscal year 2027 Service Area Competition. To avoid a gap in care, HRSA is extending their funding. Awards ending in December or January run to June 30, 2027, and awards ending in February run to July 31, 2027. HRSA listed 272 health centers on September 24, 2026, for about $527 million. A correction on October 14, 2026, added Sayre Health Center in Philadelphia, with an estimated $900,374.
Why HRSA extended the awards
Section 330 health centers hold their service area through a competitive award that runs for a fixed period. When that period ends, the center has to win the service area again in a Service Area Competition. HRSA has not yet issued the fiscal year 2027 notice of funding opportunity or made new awards for these service areas, so it gave the affected centers non-competitive extensions with funds. Patients keep their care while the competition runs.
The correction
The September 24 notice left out one service area that was not yet eligible when it was published. The October 14 correction adds it: grant H80CS06645, Sayre Health Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a January budget period start and an estimated award of $900,374. That brings the list to 273 health centers.
What the extension does not change
An extension buys time but does not renew the service area. Every center on the list still has to apply in the fiscal year 2027 Service Area Competition when HRSA issues the notice. The application has to show need, reach, and results clearly.
Preparing the application
A Service Area Competition application is long, and most of it describes work the center already does: the patients it serves, its sites, its quality results, and its board. Quillify drafts it from the center’s own documents, so last cycle’s application, the patient data narrative, and the board materials become the first draft. It also finds the foundation and state grants that fund the same patients.
