How to get a letter of support fast

How do I get a letter of support for a grant quickly?

Ask on the first day, ask the right person, and send a draft they can edit and sign. Most delays come from a busy partner facing a blank page. Tell them the funder, the deadline, what the project is and what their organization will do in it, then give them a draft in plain language with a date two or three days before you need it.

Support or commitment?

Letter of support
An endorsement. It says the writer knows your work and backs the project.
Letter of commitment
A promise of something specific: staff time, space, data, matching funds or a role in the work. Funders weigh these more, and some announcements require them from every partner named in the proposal.

Getting it signed in days

  1. Check what the announcement asks for

Some funders want letters only from named partners, some cap the number, and some ask that letters be addressed or formatted a particular way.

  2. Ask on day one

Letters depend on someone else's calendar, so they belong at the top of the list.

  3. Ask the person who can sign

A letter from someone with authority to commit their organization carries more weight and avoids a second round of approvals.

  4. Send a draft

Include the funder, the project in two sentences, the partner's specific role, and any figures they are committing. Make it easy to edit.

  5. Set an early due date

Ask for the signed letter two or three days before your own deadline, and follow up once, kindly, halfway there.

Drafting the letters in minutes

Quillify drafts partner letters and commitment letters from your organization profile, and saves them to your Data Room. Any fact it does not have is marked for you to fill in, so nothing goes out with an invented detail. On a paid plan, when you lead a consortium in Quillify, it also tracks each partner's letter until it is received. Partners join from their invitation on any plan.

The rest of a short-deadline plan.
