What changed in NIH funding notices, October 19 to 22, 2026

National Institutes of Health. October 26, 2026. Read the source.

Which NIH funding opportunities changed in the week of October 19, 2026?

Eleven NIH notices posted between October 19 and 22, 2026. The ones that change a decision: NHLBI withdrew from PA-25-305, the Parent R01 Clinical Trial Required opportunity, for due dates after July 5, 2026; NHLBI added one more receipt date to PAR-25-025 and PAR-25-026 (February 3, 2027, now expiring February 4, 2027) and to PAR-25-032 (February 16 and March 16, 2027, now expiring March 17, 2027); and the F99/K00 transition award PA-27-037 now allows up to five years of aggregate support across both phases, drops the Kirschstein-NRSA framing, and no longer requires a certification letter, effective for receipt dates from December 8, 2026. The rest add institutes to parent announcements or correct contacts.

Deadlines and withdrawals

NHLBI leaves the Parent R01 Clinical Trial Required opportunity. NOT-HL-27-001: the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute withdrew from PA-25-305 for due dates after July 5, 2026. A heart, lung, blood, or sleep clinical trial that would have gone in under the parent R01 needs an NHLBI-specific opportunity instead.

Two NHLBI clinical trial opportunities get one more receipt date. NOT-HL-27-002 adds February 3, 2027, to PAR-25-025 and PAR-25-026, the early phase clinical trials for therapeutics and diagnostics for HLBS disorders (R33 and R61/R33), and moves their expiration to February 4, 2027. NOT-HL-27-003 adds February 16, 2027, for new applications and March 16, 2027, for resubmissions and revisions to PAR-25-032, NHLBI Clinical Trial Pilot Studies (R34), which now expires March 17, 2027.

The F99/K00 transition award, corrected

NOT-OD-26-091 corrects PA-27-037, the Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Transition Award, for receipt dates beginning December 8, 2026. Individuals may receive up to five years of aggregate support across both phases, up to two years at the F99 predoctoral level and up to three at the K00 postdoctoral level. The Kirschstein-NRSA support period limits and language are removed, stipends are described simply as a subsistence allowance, and the institutional certification letter is no longer required.

NOT-EB-26-005 adds the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering to the same award, also from December 8, 2026. A bioengineering doctoral student near the transition now has an institute to apply to.

Eligibility and participation changes

BRAIN CONNECTS allows foreign components. NOT-NS-27-002: RFA-NS-27-015, Specialized Projects for Scalable Technologies (U01), now allows foreign components as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, for receipt dates on or after February 8, 2027.

Fogarty joins the collaborative international research award. NOT-TW-26-002: the Fogarty International Center participates in PA-26-002, the Parent PF5, for due dates on or after January 25, 2027.

NIDCR joins the Parent R03. NOT-DE-27-001: the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research accepts applications under PA-25-302, the NIH Small Research Grant Program, for due dates on or after February 16, 2027.

NEI and NINR join SEPA. NOT-EY-27-004 and NOT-NR-27-001: the National Eye Institute and the National Institute of Nursing Research participate in PAR-27-077, the Science Education Partnership Award (R25), for due dates on or after January 25, 2027. SEPA funds partnerships between researchers and schools, museums, and community organizations, so a nonprofit with an eye-health or nursing-education program has two new doors.

NCI adds a contact. NOT-CA-26-019 adds the National Cancer Institute’s Office of Grants Administration contact to PA-27-036, the Research Education Program (R25). Nothing else in that announcement changed.

Keeping up without reading the Guide every morning

Quillify reads each NIH notice as it posts and matches the change to the opportunities your organization is tracking. A withdrawn institute or an added receipt date shows up on your calendar instead of in a weekly table of contents. How the funding calendar and alerts work.
