Your board is asking for a grant pipeline
My board wants to see our grant pipeline. How do I build one?
A grant pipeline is a list of funding opportunities you are pursuing, each with its funder, amount, deadline and stage. The stages are simple: identified, qualified, in progress, submitted, and decided. A board wants to see that the list is long enough to absorb the declines, and that something is moving at every stage.

The five columns
- Funder
- Who would give the money.
- Ask
- How much you will request, or the amount the program offers.
- Deadline
- The date that drives the work.
- Stage
- Identified, qualified, in progress, submitted, or decided.
- Owner
- Who on the team moves it forward.
Filling it before the next meeting
Most organizations win a minority of what they submit, so the pipeline has to be several times larger than the money you need. Start with your current funders and their renewal dates. Then add new prospects from organizations like yours, and from open programs you are eligible for.
Quillify builds this list for you and tracks every deadline and outcome, so the board report comes from the same place the work happens.
Who asks this most
The answer above is the same whoever you are. What Quillify does about it is not.
