Start with what you are missing
Switching costs are real: a document library to rebuild, a team to retrain, history that stays behind. So it is worth being precise about what is not working, because the answer changes what you should move to.

If the gap is coverage, note that almost everything here is built around nonprofits. Quillify does not ask what kind of entity you are, and federal and state contracts and community lenders sit in the same search as grants.

A smaller funder dataset, and it flags which of them accept applications, plus contracts, lenders, drafting, revision and grading. Starts at $0.
Instrumentl
The closest thing to Candid's data depth inside a workflow tool, with 10 or more years of 990 history and post-award management. Considerably more expensive than us and cheaper than Candid's top tier.
Grantable
Their GrantGraph prospect database is built from 990 filings and public records, at a fraction of Candid's price with a free tier. Far less historical depth.
The 990s themselves
Foundation tax returns are public. If you are researching a handful of funders and not building a pipeline, you can read them yourself for nothing, and we have written a guide to doing it.
Who is not on this list, and why
Submittable is funder-side software, sold to the organizations giving money away, not to the ones applying. It appears in a lot of comparison lists in this category, which mostly tells you those lists were assembled without much understanding of the market.
OpenGrants now leads with “The Human Interface for AI” and sells AI strategy consulting. The grant-seeking line is still on the site and is no longer the headline, so we read them as having left the category.
GrantStation we could not verify. Their .com returned 404 on every path across two attempts and the .org served a page with no title, no heading and no content. We cannot tell from outside whether that is bot protection, a migration or a site that is down, and the difference matters, so we are not going to characterize them either way.
Where we fit
Choose Quillify if You need an application written and submitted, not researched, contracts and lending are plausible sources for you, or you want to know which funders will read an unsolicited proposal before you build a list.
